cVIGIL provides time-stamped evidentiary proof of model code of conduct/expenditure violation, featuring live photos/videos with automatically embedded location data. This unique combination of timestamping, live media with auto-location can be reliably utilized by the election machinery to pinpoint specific incidents and act promptly. The GIS-based dashboard serves as a robust decision-making tool to sift through and dismiss frivolous or unrelated cases even before they progress, thereby alleviating the burden on election authorities caused by false or baseless complaints.

• The current absence of a rapid information conduit to report and monitor Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations has often led to wrongdoers evading scrutiny by the Election Commission’s flying squads assigned with enforcing the MCC. Moreover, the lack of documented and unaltered evidence in the form of images or videos has posed a significant challenge in verifying complaint legitimacy post-factum.
• The Commission's encounters have revealed a notable percentage of misreported or inaccurate claims that divert the valuable time of field units. To address these issues, the Election Commission of India has introduced the new cVIGIL app to bridge these gaps and establish an expedited complaint submission and resolution framework.
• The 'cVIGIL' app, spearheaded by the Election Commission of India, is poised to streamline the reporting process and reinforce speedy responses for grievances related to electoral malpractices. The acronym 'cVIGIL' stands for 'Vigilant Citizen,' underscoring the proactive and responsible role each citizen can play in upholding the integrity of free and fair elections.
